Tongue: Yellow, wet coating

Pulse: Slippery, rapid

Suggested Dosage: 2-3 capsules every 4 hours between meals, or as needed.

Caution: If pregnant or nursing. Do not use with antibiotics. Reduce the dosage as symptoms improve.

Herbs in Natura-Sinus are essentially antimicrobial; they mimic antibiotics in certain ways. One way of course is that they help kill the microbes while minimizing side effects. The formula is energetically a Cold formula. Antibiotics can also be considered a Cold formula; except they are very singular in that quality (meaning not balanced). This can create the condition known as “Cold Stomach/Spleen.” The results of this are digestive disturbances; diarrhea, loss of appetite, and bloating. From a naturopathic perspective, antibiotics can also destroy the balance of probiotic flora. In high dosages, Cold herbs can actually have a similar effect. It depends on the constitution of each person and how minimal or severe that effect is.

Cold herbs plus antibiotics might create side effects similar to a strong antibiotic. With sinus infections, patients may take the formula for a few days and if the symptoms continue to worsen, then antibiotics may actually be a better solution (if the cause is bacterial.) However, antibiotics do not help if there is a viral or fungal aspect to the infection. One advantage of Natura-Sinus is that it also has antifungal herbs. It is common that chronic sinus infections have a fungal cause as well as bacterial. Antibiotics at best kill the infection, but Natura-Sinus can also do that along with helping to move and circulate the blood flow and Qi in that area, expediting the cure.

It is quite important to understand why herbs might be better in chronic, reoccurring (especially) infections and often in acute infections. The key is to track the progress of the symptoms. Sinus infections can be quite serious if they are allowed to continue.
